Die ältesten Profile stammen aus den Kartierarbeiten von Karlhans Göttlich, der zwischen 1967 und 1979 die Moorvorkommen im Allgäu, Oberschwaben, im Bodenseeraum und auf der Baar erfasste. Die Kartierung der Oberrheinebene fand zwischen 1989 und 1995 statt, die des Schwarzwaldes von 2001 bis 2015 – beide Kartierungen im Auftrag der Landesanstalt für Umwelt Baden-Württemberg. Aufgrund der langen Zeitspanne zwischen den Kartierkampagnen, dem Versuch, einer einheitlichen Kartiersystematik (nicht vergleichbar mit den Vorgaben der derzeitig gültigen bodenkundlichen Kartieranleitung (KA 6), sowie der fehlenden Erfassung von Moorvorkommen in moorärmeren Regionen Baden-Württembergs (Regierungsbezirk Stuttgart, Schwäbische Alb usw.), ist der Datensatz nicht vollständig und stellt nicht den aktuellen Zustand der Moorböden in Baden-Württemberg dar." ;
